Series Storyline

Magical Nyan Nyan Taruto starts with a short introduction about the world of Ganache, a world of magic and mystery where cats lived. There were two different 'houses' there, and every cat fell into one or the other; the house of Kinka who posessed the power of magic, and the house of Byou who posessed the power of deception. The Kinka had ruled for years, but regardless of their fine work in Ganache, were challenged by the Byou - causing a huge war that wiped out the majority of the Kinka magicians, and left Matah - the King of Ganache - in great danger.

However, in order to save his newborn daughter, the Princess of Ganache, he sent one of his best advisaries with her, and sent her down a nearby stream in a basket. Hoping she'd be safe and would one day continue the family line and rule Ganache again, Matah entrusted everything onto her, and prayed for the best.

This is where Taruto comes in - because, obviously, she was that Princess! Or at least, she's lead to believe that she is by her best friend and 'familiar', Kakipi, a friendly flying squirrel who was trapped in the loft her master, Iori, had just bought with his sister and niece. And even though her other two new friends, Charlotte and Chitose are both doubtful of her and her so-called 'magic' skills, the story starts to unwind.

However, no matter how hard Taruto tries, she just can't convince Iori she's a princess! Because while cats see each other as humanoid beings who are able to communicate with their owners like humans can, they appear as regular four-legged cats to humans, and whatever they say is simply 'meowing' or 'nyaaing'! None of the cats seem to notice, and Iori just seems like some 'ignorant loser' to the majority... which he might well be, but- oh, nevermind.

Throughout the series Taruto encounters various problems that she has to deal with. But being a cat and all sure isn't helpful for many of them, especially when she's completely useless at controlling her 'magic'!

The first few episodes are pretty innocent with a little trail of mystery through them when three mysterious cats dressed in robes and wearing masks appear. However, that's nothing majorly important to begin with. But then nearing the end of the series, it starts to get a little more interesting and starts to incorporate the underlying storyline; because while Taruto is still alive and well, the Byou are constantly trying to find and kill the princess! So, three of the most vicious Byou members are sent to - Cyclo, Aspa and Rutame - and it seems like they'll stop at nothing to get her!

So, nearing the end of the series, everything starts to wind together and every character that Taruto met throughout her journey from start to finish join in to save Ganache, and more importantly, Taruto herself!
